The car is one of the most reliable means of transportation. How not, this vehicle can take you and your family anywhere without any hassle! However, learning to drive a car is not easy, it takes strong will and regular practice.

There are 2 types of car transmission, namely automatic (matic) and manual. Automatic cars are preferred by beginners, especially women because they are easy to use, no need to bother adjusting gears (gears).

And also another convenience is that when there is a traffic jam like in big cities, you don't have to bother stepping on the clutch - brake - gas pedal, just step on the brake - gas pedal.

If you can drive a car, you can go anywhere without needing to hire a driver!

Well, in this article we will discuss the steps to learn to drive an automatic car and how to use it correctly. It turns out that there are still many of us who are wrong about the procedure for using automatic car gear, so that the car breaks down quickly.

So how do you learn to drive an automatic car? Here are the steps:

  1. The first step is the introduction of the features on the dashboard, such as the start button, turn signal lights, wipers, automatic car gears, and others. This is most important, learn driving etiquette, and also traffic signs. Before leaving, check tire pressure and radiator water. Use seat belts and adjust the position of the car seat as comfortably as possible.

  2. The arrangement of automatic car gears is different from manual car gears. P symbol for parking. R to back off. N is neutral, D is for flat ground, D-3 is on an incline. The D-2 and L are used when on mountain roads full of steeper inclines.

  3. The next step is when starting the automatic car, make sure the gear position is in N or P. Then step on the brake first, release the handbrake by pressing the brake button and pull the handbrake up, then push the handbrake down, then press the start button to turn on machine. Shift gears to position D. If you release the brake pedal, your car can start.

  4. Ask your coach for help getting the car to the field. Try to practice in a wide area. Practice checking the right rearview mirror & left, as well as the center mirror, holding the steering wheel properly, turning the steering wheel, practicing brakes, and training to step on the gas gently & stable. Every time you want to turn right, check the right mirror to make sure the road is empty. To turn back to the right, turn the steering wheel until it is full to the right.

  5. After mastering in the field, try to practice in the alley way of your house while heading to the field, identify the width and length of the car body, slow down when passing other cars on a narrow road. Practice pressing the brakes gently when there is a speed bump.

  6. After that, try the incline exercise, using gear D-3 for long ramps. Use D-2 for steeper climbs. When you stop or get stuck on an uphill road, apart from stepping on the brake pedal, you can also pull the handbrake when you stop for a long time.

  7. Practice parking backwards, try parking close together and parallel to other cars.

Now, once you get adept at driving a car, another thing you should pay attention to is when you use the automatic gear/lever. Changing the wrong gear / automatic lever can cause your car's gearbox to fail, and the price of the gearbox is very expensive. Here are some rules that can help keep your car 'Healthy'.

Never change gear 'P' at a red light.

The correct way to stop at a red light is:

  1. Step on the foot brake.
  2. Enter gear N (without pressing the button on the gear, just push).
  3. Pull the handbrake.
  4. Release the foot brake.

When it starts running:

  1. Step on the brakes.
  2. Enter gear D (without pressing the gear button, just pull it).
  3. Release the handbrake.
  4. Release the foot brake.
  5. Step on the gas.

Here are the rules for using the buttons on the gear.

1. Press the button during switching:

P to R.

R to P.

R to N.

N to R.

D to L/D2.

L/D2 to D.

2. Never press a button when:

N to D.

D to N.

D to D3.

D3 to D.

Why it can not?

To avoid stopping the gear change (gear rejection). If it's overpowered, your gearbox could be damaged. For example from gear D, you want to push to N. If you don't press the gear button, you can't push further because the gear is locked in N. But if you press the button, you can push the gear all the way to R.

For example, when you want to stop the car, you will push into gear N from gear D. By pressing the gear button, the chances of being pushed into gear R are very high. If the car has not stopped completely, the gearbox may be damaged. As a result of the sudden shift from D to R it is inadvertently depressed.
